Participants heard from many speakers from the Center for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine about Stem Cell Biology, Stem Cell Registries and the International Stem Cell Registry, Intellectual Properties and Patent Issues with Stem Cell Research, and Bioethical Considerations with Stem Cell Research. The afternoon also featured Tours of the Stem Cell Center, Laboratory Demos and Stem Cell Culture Methods, and Walkthrough of the International Stem Cell Registry with the Curators. To put Stem Cell research in perspective for librarians, Howard Silver, DA, Associate Head, MIT Science Library, talked about the evolving roles and opportunities for librarians in this subject area, as well as many other STEM disciplines. Lastly, Nancy Peterson, MLIS presented an overview of the New England States Consortium Systems Organization (NESCSO), a group organized by UMMS to foster communication and collaboration among its members through information sharing and joint/regional projects.
