PubMed

PubMed is an interface for the MEDLINE database.  MEDLINE is a comprehensive medical and health science literature citation database hosted by the National Library Medicine.  It includes over 24 million citations to biomedical (including nursing) literature.  Using PubMed via the Lamar Soutter Library provides direct linking to over 40,000 journals for UMMS and UMMHC users.

This 60 minute session will introduce the basics of searching the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE database using the PubMed interface. We personalize sessions for individual research consultations and groups’ needs. Content covered can include:

  • How to access PubMed and be familiar with its content/structure.
  • How to conduct basic PubMed searches, limit and combine your results, save them to the Clipboard, and find Related Articles.
  • How and when to use specialized search functions like MeSH, Single Citation Matcher, filters, and Clinical Queries.
  • How to set up a free MyNCBI account to customize your PubMed interface, save searches, and keep your search history.
  • How to easily access full-text resources available to the UMMS/UMMHC community.
