Data Services from the Library

Research Data Management Consultations

We are available to help you, your lab, or center understand your data management needs and recommend best practices for keeping your data usable, now and into the future.

Data Management Plan Review

Data Management Plans are required components for some grant proposals that outline how the principle investigators will manage and share their primary research data.

If requested, a data librarian can review your data management plan (DMP) prior to submission with grant applications and provide feedback. Please allow ten working days for our review. We will try to accommodate requests for review at short notice but please note that we cannot guarantee this.

  • Create data management plans and find further guidance on funder requirements through DMPTool.

Data Cleaning

Messy data on your hands? A data librarian can help provide guidance on how to clean it using OpenRefine or R.

Benefits of sharing your data through eScholarship@UMassChan:

  • it is free to you
  • it can accommodate large file sizes and a variety of file formats
  • it can apply embargoes for access controls
  • it can provide a persistent identifier, such as a DOI
  • it includes sufficient metadata to enable discovery and reuse
  • it is a redundant copy of your data in the event that something should happen to your original
