Below you'll find a few resources that deal specifically with correctional health as well as resources for finding literature focused on criminal justice and addiction medicine. 

• CDC Correctional Health

• National Commission on Correctional Health Care

• The National Institute of Corrections is the only federal agency with a legislative mandate to provide specialized services to corrections from a national perspective. NIC is unique because it provides direct service rather than financial assistance as the primary means of carrying out its mission and provides practical assistance in planning and implementing improvements at the federal, state and local levels. There is a section specifically on Correctional Healthcare, but also the following you may find useful:

  • Tip for the NIC website: Search for health, healthcare, or health care in the search bar to get a list of trainings, reports, literature, etc. that the organization houses or has put together. 

• National Criminal Justice Reference Service: One of the largest criminal and juvenile justice libraries and databases in the world with holdings from the early 1970s to the present from the United States and around the world. These resources include statistics, research findings, program descriptions, congressional hearing transcripts, and training materials.  Use the Topical Index to find statistics on a variety of topics.

• Criminal Justice Research Network: A repository for preprints and international journals devoted to the rapid dissemination of scholarly research in the social sciences and humanities and more.

• PubMed: A free research engine that houses more than 35 million citations from the biomedical literature, life science journals, and online books.
