eScholarship@UMassChan Repository Staff Support Guide: Help pages and introductory text

Documentation and how to guides for UMass Chan Medical School's institutional repository on Atmire's Open Repository DSpace platform, at https://repository.escholarship.umassmed.edu.

Repository welcome text

To edit the welcome text on the home page: Edit in sidebar > Static Page > "Edit a site-level static page" > select "news"

Help pages

The functionality to create the Help pages is called "static" pages in Open Repository/DSpace. They can be created or edited by going to "+" or the pencil icon in the admin menu.

Word and HTML files of the current Help pages and the ones we were using in OR5 are located at:
I:\Help pages and home page text

Hints:

  • The "name" field for static pages is for the URL, so this should be as short as possible using hyphens for two or more words
  • The "title" field for static pages is what displays at the top of the page, so the text does not need to include a document title (which is usually coded as <h1>)
  • HTML anchor functionality that allowed for a Table of Contents menu in each document (to easily navigate to a section further down the page) is not working in the OR7 static page editor. I removed the Table of Contents from the Help pages for now. There is a version of each Help page with and without a Table of Contents section.
