Diversity and Health

The Gender Unicorn shows that gender identity, gender expression, physical attraction and emotional attraction are all spectra and separate components of sexuality and gender along with sex assigned at birth.

  • Trans Bodies Trans Selves (2022) - Inspired by Our Bodies, OurselvesTrans BodiesTrans Selves is widely accessible to the transgender population, providing authoritative information in an inclusive and respectful way. This book represents the collective knowledge base of dozens of influential experts. Each chapter takes the reader through an important issue, such as race, religion, employment, medical and surgical transition, mental health, relationships, sexuality, parenthood, arts and culture, and many more.

  • Documentary: Cured (2021) - Five years in the making, CURED illuminates a pivotal yet largely unknown chapter in the struggle for LGBTQ equality: the campaign that led the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to remove homosexuality from its manual of mental illnesses.
  • Podcast: Radiolab (2018) - UnErased - This is a profile of one of the gods of psychotherapy, who through a reckoning with his own work (oddly enough in the pages of Playboy magazine), becomes the first domino to fall in science’s ultimate disowning of the “gay cure.”

  • The Rainbow Times - Boston-based newspaper that aims to increase awareness of LGBTQ issues and serves as a vehicle to unify and strengthen the communities throughout New England. Spanish version available.
  • The Village Voice -  The nation's first alternative weekly newspaper, covering the counter-culture, politics, and all things New York from 1955 to now.

Associations & Institutes

  • The Fenway Institute – The Fenway Institute’s key commitment is to address the specific health needs of sexual and gender minorities (SGM) and people affected by HIV. 
  • Gay & Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) - GLMA is an organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) physicians, medical students, and their supporters that works to maximize the quality of health services for LGBT people and promote full civil rights.
  • GLAAD Magazine - rewrites the script for LGBTQ acceptance by tackling tough issues. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love.
  • National LGBTQ Task Force - Aims to advance full freedom, justice and equality for LGBTQ people.

Trans Health

Medical Care for Trans and Gender Diverse Adults (2021) - The Fenway Health Transgender Health Program (THP) produced these protocols for clinicians in primary care settings to best serve their Transgender and Gender Diverse (TGD) patients.

Intersex Health

Affirming Primary Care for Intersex People (2020) - This community-informed clinical guide on primary care for intersex people provides an overview of intersex terms and concepts, the health concerns of intersex people, intersex-affirming practices, and resources for further learning.

Interface Project - Communicates the lived experiences of intersex people by recording the voices, transcribing the words, and publishing the stories of people born with a variation of sex anatomy.
