Library Service Point: Borrowing Materials

Borrowing Library Materials

The library front desk is temporarily closed due to short staffing. If you have an existing Library Account and would like to check out a physical book, charger, museum pass, or any other material please submit your request through Ask a Librarian and we will coordinate with you.

Check Out a Print Book:

Keep the book(s) you've selected and include the library barcode number(s) in your Ask a Librarian request. Library barcodes start with a R090_______. Library Barcodes are sometime located inside the back cover of the book.


Museum Passes for Checkout

The library has passes for free or reduced admission to local museums (listed below). UMass Chan students, staff, faculty, and residents can check out one pass at a time. Please use Ask a Librarian to request a Museum Pass.

EcoTarium (Worcester, MA)

  • Each coupon admits up to two adults and two children in one vehicle for half price. Children under two are free. (The library has about 75 one-time use passes)

    • Complete the informaton on the back of the coupon before arriving at the EcoTarium

The Icon Museum and Study Center (Clinton, MA)

  • Each pass admits up to six people free of charge.  (The library has six passes)

New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill (Boylston, MA)

  • Each card admits two guests at half price.  Children three and under are free. (The library has four passes)

Reserving Tickets In Advance (Optional):

  1. After checking out the Tower Hill card, go to:  purchase.nebg.org

  2. Under "Purchase Tickets" select "General Admission Calendar"

  3. Navigate the calendar to the preferred visitation date

  4. They system will display the number of available tickets, including sold out dates

  5. Select "Garden Admission # tickets" for the chosen date

  6. Select the type and number of tickets needed for the visit

  7. Follow the prompts to complete the pre-reservation ticket purchase

  8. Use discount code "LIBDI" during checkout

  9. Bring the membership card to your reserved time at Tower Hill

  10. Return the membership card to the Library Service Point after your visit

Worcester Art Museum (Worcester, MA)

  • Each pass provides 50% off the admission fee for up to 2 adults and/or children. Children 17 and under are free of charge. (The library has four passes)

  • Pass Card holders may enjoy use of the Museum Library as a resource free of charge.

  • Passes are not valid for any other applicable discounts on special programming or lectures.

Medical Instruments for Checkout

The Student Body Committee has the following medical instruments available for loan in the Lamar Soutter Library at the Library Service Point:

Blood Pressure Kits

Students may request items through the Ask a Librarian Service. Items will be checked out to the student and marked for pick-up at the self-service desk.

Students are responsible for proper cleaning and care of the devices. All pieces and instructions must be kept together in the casing provided. Instruments must be cleaned before and after use. Alcohol wipes are available at the LSP. Any loss or damage should be reported to library staff within 24-hours of check-out. Students are responsible for the cost of any damage or replacement. Students will lose borrowing privileges until instruments are returned or replaced. By borrowing these items from the library, students are agreeing to comply with the library loan policy and are taking responsibility for any loss/damage to the equipment.
