Library Service Point: Connect from Off-campus

Access Library Electronic Resources Remotely With Proxy Service

A Proxy Service allows you to access electronic resources that the Lamar Soutter Library subscribes to while off-campus.

Who Has Access:

  • UMass Chan Staff, Students, Faculty, Residents, Fellows, Post-Docs, and Retired Faculty
  • Baystate Faculty, Residents, and Fellows
  • Lahey Faculty, Residents, and Fellows

Preceptors must apply for faculty status in order to be eligible for proxy access. Preceptors should contact the Office of Medical Education to expedite the process. If a faculty member is working with non-UMass Chan students on a rotation, those students are eligible for proxy access for the length of their rotation.

Request Access to Library Electronic Resources

To request a library account, please submit the Library Requests Form. Your request will be reviewed for eligibility and library staff will contact you within 3 business days.

How to Access Electronic Resources When Off-Campus (Proxy Service)

1. Begin your search at the library's website:  https://library.umassmed.edu

2. Search for a resource using the search box on the home page, or select a database.

3. Authenticate via Proxy Service: If you select a resource that is restricted to on-campus use, a screen will appear asking if you have a umassmed.edu email account.

  • If you select "Yes" on the screen, you will be redirected to SSO with your campus username and password (not your Library Account).
  • If you select "No" on the screen, you will be redirected to the following login page:

  • For "username" enter your Library Account # (Barcode) or primary email address
  • For "password" enter your Library Account password in the login form, then click Login.
    • For instructions on how to find your Barcode, edit your Library Account Information, or reset your password, go to the Library Account Tab

  4.  You will be redirected to the resource you have selected.

Remember! When on UMass Chan's campus, you will not login to Proxy.

Any Questions? Please submit an Ask a Librarian or email Lamar_Soutter_Library@umassmed.edu

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

VPN is not a reliable way to access library resources. Please try accessing library resources from the library website using the Proxy instructions above.

VPN service is managed by Information Technology (IT) department at UMass Chan Medical School. They give complete instructions on the UMass Chan website, including system requirements and login instructions.
